I'm Zak, a Data Operations Associate at Flexport. Previously, I founded an education technology startup that was backed by Techstars. I've also worked at First Round Capital's Dorm Room Fund, where I was a managing partner helping oversee the fund; at Stripes Group, where I was an analyst doing growth equity investing; and at the NewSchools Venture Fund's Reach Capital, where I interned on the investment team. Along with my work, I've been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, TechCrunch, Bloomberg View, and The Next Web, and have been honored by the Clinton Global Initiative and NBC Education Nation.

Dorm Room Fund
Partner, Managing Partner Mar 2015 - May 2017
Dorm Room Fund is a $3M student-run venture capital firm backed by First Round Capital. As one of just eight managing partners nationwide, I made decisions about which startups to invest in (at a typical check size of $20,000) and helped manage our team of almost 50 partners nationwide. Before becoming Managing Partner, I was previously a partner at Dorm Room Fund.
Summer Analyst Jun 2016 - Aug 2016
Stripes Group is a leading growth equity firm that makes $10-100 million investments in Internet, Software, Healthcare IT and Branded Consumer Products businesses. As a summer analyst, I conducted market research, developed relationships and generated new investment opportunities for Stripes.
Summer Intern Jun 2015 - Aug 2015
As a summer intern at the Schusterman Foundation, I worked directly under the senior program officer and the vice-president of the Foundation doing due diligence and financial analysis of venture philanthropy opportunities. I also helped manage deal flow and provided support to the Foundation's portfolio.

NewSchools Venture Fund's Reach Capital
Summer Intern Jun 2013 - Aug 2013
I was an intern on NewSchools' venture team (now Reach Capital) in between high school and college. While there, I led a project to create a cohesive and coherent set of information for aspiring education technology entrepreneurs including market research, sample legal documents, corporation formation advice, and other resources for our portfolio. I participated in diligence on companies coming through the pipeline, created market research to be used by the firm and portfolio companies, and met with and evaluated entrepreneurs interested in raising funding.
CEO/Founder Dec 2010 - Feb 2013
TruantToday instantly contacts parents the minute that students cut class, bringing students -- and funding -- back to the classroom. I led TruantToday to winning the Clinton Global Initiative's Startup Competition, being named "teacher's choice" at the NBC Education Nation Innovation Competition, and raising a successful round of venture capital which included participation from Techstars, where I was the youngest founder they had ever funded.
CEO/Founder Sep 2008 - May 2015
I founded Autism Ambassadors and created a curriculum of over 1000 lesson plans with the help of volunteer psychologists that I recruited. Under my leadership, Autism Ambassadors has expanded into over 30 school and school districts nationwide. Sage Publications, one of the largest academic publishers in the world, published the Autism Ambassadors Handbook that I wrote, and we now work with the Disney Channel to help put positive images of students with special needs on the air. We also disburse grants to teachers using our program as a part of the Autism Ambassadors Fellowship, a program that I created and raised funding for.
